The power of “Nano Powder Metal”
Research has shown that many women suffer from split ends, leading to the query of what could be causing this problem. This question motivated Mizutani's product development team to gain a better insight into cutting hair with scissors. Examining actual hair revealed the mechanisms of hair-cutting, which encouraged further examination of whether scissors could create a clean-cut cross-section without causing damage.
NPM, otherwise known as "Nano Powder Metal," is produced via HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing)--a specialized production method. NPM is comprised of uniformly-sized particles fused together at high temp & pressure, ensuring low impurity & inclusion levels. This material is utilized to craft precision industrial instruments, like Blu-ray disc molds, which must possess impurity-free properties.

Our Nano Powder Metal®, manufactured via Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP), is a specialized steel fabricated from nano-level powder. This powder is subjected to intense heating and pressure tempering, eliminating unnecessary filler and impurities. Used to produce precision items like Blu-ray disc molds, it demands exceptionally high levels of purity. At MIZUTANI SCISSORS, we conducted our own research into this material to create the perfect hair-scissors: strong blades that maintain sharpness and longevity.
